This is undoubtedly the most complex and laborious part of the project. It is also the most original and innovative part, as it aims to develop a semi-automatic analyser at a morpho-syntactic level of the Basque language. To do so, the linguistic characteristics of Basque dialects and sub-dialects at a morphological and syntactic level have been established and described, with a view to setting up the necessary computational processes for semi-automatic analysis.
The dialectal richness of Bonaparte's Archive makes it more difficult to fulfil the principal aim of the project. This difficulty in dialectal diversity is risen since texts and orthographic conventions belong to different periods, thus showing an important variety of sounds. To this phonetic level, it is important to add the wide range of sound features reflected in the texts, since they show the spoken dialectal style that Bonaparte was aiming to collect. Thus, this corpus shows a vast number of variants. |
