TEXT COMPARISON

The very nature of most of the texts that are home of the Bonaparte Fund is particularly useful and interesting, since they offer the user the possibility of comparing different versions of the same text. Translations of books, both from the Old and New Testaments, and the countless translation versions of the Christian Doctrine to all the Basque dialects, subdialects and varieties, provide an exceptional linguistic richness.

Exceptional data relating to translation and textual interpretation can be obtained from the parallel comparison of these texts, as well as valuable information diatopically distributed on the different dialectal options and realizations.

Once a work is selected, and so the selected text has the right to provide extensive information, it is offered the possibility of aligning up to four different versions of the same work.

The segmentation prior to alignment was made following a subjective segmentation criteria (in the case of profane texts) or objective segmentation (in the case of religious texts, where a standard criterion is already established, that of the chapter-verse structure).

This view is supported by the TEI labelling of texts and to perform it, XSLT display templates were used.
